Hypnotherapy
What is Hypnotherapy?
There is a part of you that learned — very early, and very wisely — how to survive. She learned to stay small, stay quiet, anticipate moods, and manage everyone else's emotions so that she could stay safe. That part of you was brilliant. And she's been running the show ever since.
Hypnotherapy works at the level where those early decisions live — below conscious thought, in the subconscious patterns and stored memories that talk therapy alone can't always reach. As a Board-Certified Hypnotherapist (C.Ht) and licensed clinical social worker, I use clinical hypnotherapy as a complement to trauma-conscious psychotherapy — not as a standalone trick, but as a deeply intentional tool for accessing and healing what got buried.
Clinical hypnotherapy is not stage hypnosis. You are not unconscious, not "under" anyone's control, and not made to do anything against your will. You remain fully aware throughout. What hypnotherapy does is guide you into a deeply relaxed, focused state — similar to deep meditation or prayer — where the subconscious mind becomes more receptive to healing suggestions and new beliefs. Most clients find it profoundly calming.
How it Can Help You
For women who grew up in toxic or neglectful family systems, the roots of self-doubt, people-pleasing, anxiety, and emotional dysregulation often run deeper than conscious insight can reach. Hypnotherapy gives us access to that deeper layer.
At Mindfull Melanin, hypnotherapy is particularly effective for:
Inner child healing and reparenting work
Releasing deeply held shame and self-blame from childhood
Breaking cycles of people-pleasing, perfectionism, and overthinking
Anxiety and chronic hypervigilance rooted in early experiences
Unwanted relationship patterns linked to attachment wounds
Sleep disturbances and nervous system dysregulation
Grief, loss, and emotional processing
Strengthening the sense of self after years of identity suppression
Hypnotherapy is offered as a package series following an initial intake session, allowing the work to build progressively over time. Sessions are available via telehealth to clients in North Carolina and Virginia, and as a wellness service, hypnotherapy coaching may also be available to clients outside these states — please inquire.
